;-) What makes me unique?
In August 2007, Professor Randy Pausch (professor of computer science at a prestigious American university and expert in virtual reality) discovers that what he was fighting against cancer the long sentence without hope. Chooses to leave the university to stay close to family and gives one last lecture, last lecture, which was published by Rizzoli in Italy under the title "The Last Lecture. Life explained by a dying man," recommended reading. Draw from this book some initial comments from Randy.
"What makes me unique?" It was
This is the question that I ask myself. Find an answer I might have helped us understand how to set the speech. Sitting in the waiting room at Johns Hopkins Hospital, waiting for medical report of yet, I used Jay (his wife, ed) as the litmus test for some of my ideas.
"Cancer does not make me unique," I said. No doubt about it. The only pancreatic cancer are diagnosed each year more than 37,000 Americans.
I thought long and hard about how to define: teacher, computer, husband, father, son, brother, mentor to my students. These are roles which I have always given value. But which of these I have marked? Although I have always had a rather developed ego, I knew that for this lesson needed something more than mere presumption. I asked myself: "There is something that only I can give?"
And there, suddenly, in the waiting room, I knew exactly what it was. I was literally struck by lightning. All my results were, all I had loved in life originated in dreams and goals I had as a child ... and in fact made almost all of them. My uniqueness, I realized at that time, was residing in all the dreams - some significant, others eccentrics - that have characterized my forty-six years of life. Despite cancer, sat in the waiting room, I understood to be a really lucky man because I've made. In large part, thanks to the teachings received along the way, the extraordinary people I have known. If I had told my story conveying the passion with which I lived, so my class could also help others find the way to realize their dreams. "
